A little taste of what planning your evening is like.
I'm tinkering with the idea of putting the comic on a bi-weekly schedule (or, every other Sunday) to help ease up on production crunch lately, I still have a few pages left in my buffer so I havnt decided for sure yet, but well see how production on the next few pages go before I decide for sure.

Bwahaha! That DLC is so damn complicated! XD
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 12:32 AM edit delete reply
Then I have succeeded in making it look like a massive pain to deal with.

Now I really wanna see the advanced stuff. I wonder if the rate's the same for a threesome? I mean, if it's economical...
Danny Zephronic 6th Apr 2014, 8:31 PM edit delete reply
I know right?
Advanced might have some kinky stuff or maybe even the freakier fetishes

Leaves one curious
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 12:32 AM edit delete reply
Left purposely ambiguous for that very reason. Let your dreams soar!

Ha! His face during "He's Expecting Me." Priceless.
meep 6th Apr 2014, 3:55 PM edit delete reply
Curious - How long does it take you to complete one 'page' considering each update can really be considered several pages.

I'd be sorry to see it go bi-weekly because of how much I look forward to updates, but I'd also fully understand you doing that. Just very grateful you keep updating and offer this free, it easily one of my two favourite comics.
Notos 6th Apr 2014, 9:46 PM edit delete reply
It depends on the page, but on average 1 to 1 and a half weeks per page, bigger pages can take 2 weeks. I also would prefer to keep it weekly, easier to stay relevant and keep peoples interest but the workload becomes much greater. Again, we'll see! I'll see how production goes the next few pages.
Rauron 6th Apr 2014, 11:08 PM edit delete reply
Have you ever considered using Patreon or Subbable to help fund your work? I know that the workload would still be high, but if there's some money from it then perhaps you could more easily make time for the comic. Plus, those methods keep the comic free for folks who can't/won't pay, which (I'm glad) you seem to value.
meep 10th Apr 2014, 9:22 AM edit delete reply
I'm not surprised, but thats a lot of work you put into this.

shownder 6th Apr 2014, 4:55 PM edit delete reply
I'll be sorry to see it go on a bi-monthly schedule, but like the above poster understand the need, especially for something you're doing for free.

Obviously you can't print and bind this as a normal comic, but have you thought of other mediums where you could get some compensation? Such as a digital comic in mobile/tablet app form? I know I would definitely pay for each chapter update :)
Notos 6th Apr 2014, 9:53 PM edit delete reply
I've never considered doing anything for pay for the comic, the comic will always be free. A lot of that stems from the themes, it would kind of be hypocritical to write a comic about the 'monetization' of once-free entertainment and leisure and to charge people for it. I appreciate the suggestions though, and again I haven't decided for sure yet, I'll only go bi-weekly if in a few pages I'm still feeling a big crunch.
Biobear 7th Apr 2014, 4:24 AM edit delete reply
Going off of what Shownder said -

Selling a compilation of the comic, on say a flash drive, that includes some of the production extras and/or even a little creator commentary would make for a nice item.
Suggestion - Add a plug for the Donation tab at the top of the page in your weekly initial post. It will make folks more aware of its existence (just had to double check that it was there)
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 2:02 PM edit delete reply
I'll most likely do something like that, but at the end when the comic is all wrapped.

Only interactions with between two or more individuals.

you could have flexed True Evil, there, if you had accounted for DLCing one's own self, notie

i probably woulda lost my shit if ever i saw that in print.
laughing my ass off at such unmitigated audacity

but, such is not a possibility in this universe, so that's naught of my concern

Man! I just cant get over how absolutely insane it is, to have all social interaction like that. It's fascinating and seriously messed up at the same time!

How do the people outside the city fare I wonder?

There isn't much for privacy in this future. Imagine how 'connected' we are in this day and age with technology and the internet in it's infancy, let alone 800 some years from now.
chris-tar 6th Apr 2014, 6:33 PM edit delete reply
I'm afraid DLC would make me lose my mind.

I guess the physical intimacy part between Vinnie and Galvin is coming up next. Maybe I can look at it from a "scientific" point of view so as to retain my heterosexual self image.
I guess I'm going to be facing a dilemma of sorts.
Notos 6th Apr 2014, 10:01 PM edit delete reply
I'm keeping it within a R rating, nothing you wouldn't see on HBO or a bold arthouse flick.

I was wondering what was the minimal salary in this world. I mean, in order to figure out what it feels like to pay DLC compared to our nowadays mobile carrier. How many credits does a dollar cost (or similar) ?
Notos 6th Apr 2014, 10:04 PM edit delete reply
I try to keep the 'dollar value' of Credits a bit ambiguous, makes it easier for me to modulate Vinnie's finances throughout the story without having to worry about comparisons to current day economy.
Finz_ 6th Apr 2014, 7:02 PM edit delete reply
If he's a train wreck of anxiety on the inside he's doing a great job of hiding it. Vinnie you got this!

Maybe he's just getting bolder as time goes by!
RadjinWolf 6th Apr 2014, 7:47 PM edit delete reply
Hahaha, "He's -expecting- me.." is probably the most forceful I've ever seen Vinny. xD Glad to see the guy is finally getting some confidence!

No Vinnie! Stay at Fridge's tonight T__T
Rauron 6th Apr 2014, 11:12 PM edit delete reply
Oh boy, Vinnie's growing up! The poor thing is really going to need to get a break soon, though, or DLC will just crush him.

Here's a question: Does that DLC package basically account for -all- activities for 12 hours between those two? Like, even breakfast and such? If so, what's the split between "cost of conversation" and "cost of physical contact"?
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 12:38 AM edit delete reply
Yep all interactions are included for 12 hours, that's the "benefit" of going with a Package like that, instead of just letting things happen (and thus, letting the charges pile up.) The downside being, it's a bit of a gamble, go with a set price, set time for cheaper. Or let things happen and see how much you owe at the end.
Draginbeard 7th Apr 2014, 1:22 AM edit delete reply
Really, really like the P-COM sequence. Its touches like this that pulls me right into the story.

I can only imagine how demanding these updates are. There seem like 10+ pages of work each time.

I know I had to slow down my own updates (from twice a week, to once) just because I went from black and white to color. And I still get behind a couple times a year.
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 1:27 PM edit delete reply
For what it's worth I appreciate Draginbeard in color! (and don't mind waiting during hiatus) maybe I should look at it that way.
Biobear 7th Apr 2014, 4:28 AM edit delete reply
Vinnie seems to be bulking up (muscle) a little. not sure if it was intended, but the change is nice.Makes him seem less static.
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 1:22 PM edit delete reply
Not exactly intentional, just the style changing over time, the characters look quite a bit different from when I started. Like any comic or animated series I suppose!
Froggy711 7th Apr 2014, 5:13 AM edit delete reply
Fridge is so dense. -_-

It's probably just his personality, the way he interrupts Vinnie all the time and everything. He's really nice but strikes me as a bit self-centered.

I wonder though... He has the equipment, but what about the libido? Judging by the posters on the walls he clearly still has it. But I wonder if he can control it? That would be kind of a mixed blessing, wouldn't it? Once you start "playing with the thermostat", so to speak, you might discover that life is just easier (and cheaper, as Vinnie has found out!) without sex, so I think some synths might slide toward asexuality after a while. OR they might be super lovers, with custom made parts and adjustable libidos...

But I think a lot of people would probably want more natural libidos that you can't directly control. Kind of interesting to think about though.
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 1:24 PM edit delete reply
Yeah Fridge is quite an egomaniac. I've given each character some flaws and that is clearly his. As far as libido goes, I suppose that depends if its more a mental or physical thing, Fridge still has a flesh and blood brain.
guvvuf 7th Apr 2014, 6:06 AM edit delete reply
Aw yeah get some Galvin. Speaking of which, I figure we can expect more time from his POV but I'm hoping for.. more, proportionally, if that's clear at all.

Also, I'll understand if you have to go on a slower update schedule - because at least there's updates!
Notos 7th Apr 2014, 1:27 PM edit delete reply
I think I get what you're saying? I'm trying to write Galvin in a lot more, it's a tough balance because a lot of the story focuses on how the DLC system strains the relationship, but I intend on doing more Galvin-focused bits now that they are "official" and we've met his friends, there are more opportunities for me to write for him.

This is my second time commenting, I just want to say thank you for this wonderful comic and while it is sad that updates may come once every two weeks instead, it is perfectly understandable and this comic has my full interest over every other stuff I read!

I've always been frugal but I too am glad we don't have to pay for this type of thing (yet)
Singularity 7th Apr 2014, 9:29 PM edit delete reply
Oh, man, I just realized.
If they have DLC for specific types of sex, does that know that they know what you are doing?
Jeeze, I knew it was intrusive, but I think that I'd keep that thing locked away in a very very thick box whilst doing it now that it seems like they're keeping tabs on you.

Everytime i finish reading your comics it warms my heart because the character interactions are so sincere and so sweet, it helps with my anxiety too, so thank you and keep the good work!

By the way, i have a question, do you intend to make the comic more like a long running series or is a story with an beginning, middle and end already in mind? It has such an intriguing background to explore on this world that you created.
Notos 9th Apr 2014, 1:09 AM edit delete reply
Thanks so much, glad you dig it. The story has a planned length, with an ending in mind.

Wait...wait.. So are you telling me I have to pay for sex with my own bf? Those DLC guys really thought up ways to screw people over! Wait...wouldn't that kinda be like prostitution?
Notos 10th Apr 2014, 12:41 AM edit delete reply
Hmm, not quite, since it isn't one individual -selling- to another it's two individuals -buying- for each other.

I uhm, well when I first saw this I was looking for paw material, but I ended up falling in love with the comic, even though I spent a minute on every guy nude scene, and now that its becoming a bit more steamy, or leading up to, I'm kinda hoping for a sex scene :#/ other than my creepy ass comment, great comic! I have been patiently following this since October : 3

I'm curious of the Adults only more advanced packages....why not have him take a peek? What would it hurt? Could be kind of funny, cute, and show how afraid he is of what might happen between them. No matter what, I'm just thankful that I was turned on to this comic.
