Overtime Montage! Apologies if this page chugs a bit, Flash tends to slow when there are a lot of animations going at once.
After next week's page (page 9) there -might- be a 1 week gap. Depending on how smoothly production goes, I foresee needing a bit more time to depict this new 'big event', a very dialogue-heavy page. Not sure if I'll need it or not, but I'll mention it here in the comments if so. Either way, coming up on the end of this chapter (we're looking at about 13, 14 pages) Thanks for reading, see you next week Autonoms.

When I saw the credit received, I was like... Holy Fucking Shit!

Good for you, Vin!!
MortarAndPistol 4th May 2014, 2:23 PM edit delete reply
Ooooooh.. Exciting. When you said "chugs a bit" I thought you meant like a train chugging along, or someone chugging a beer (things happening fast) and were apologizing for moving through time quickly, and I was all "this looks like a week or so in time". Then I fully read your comment and felt foolish.
Notos 4th May 2014, 10:43 PM edit delete reply
Oops, nope. It's a term we use for a program or animation or something running slow.

if a pay-out of 48k Credits is a big deal,
and their night Package was about 54k if I remember correctly

is a night THAT expensive?
Notos 4th May 2014, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
48k Credits is good for 3 hours of straight up conversation with no other types of interaction/contact. So, it's not like he's won the lottery or anything, but certainly a big amount to just get out of the blue.
Draginbeard 4th May 2014, 5:45 PM edit delete reply
Oooh, this looks like its gonna be a game changer for Vinnie!

Im not entirely sure how the Credit is valued, but 48k seems like a fair, conservative number to flash a prospective talent.

Actually, now I kinda wonder what a full on corporate meeting would cost. I think we might find out soon enough!

May the Fourth be with you! Vinnie would be cute cosplayed as a jedi, lol.

Galvin wants to see him but Vin Vin is holding out so he can pay equal. I'd tell him get with Galvin if I was there! Not b/c I want to see more naughty scenes (not that I would object) but b/c thats what couples do!

This might be what needs to get out of the pit and start really living with other people. Though, I hate to be a downer but at times a cooperate sponser will try and force change on the artists to boost profit. I really do not hope this happens to them since they are naturals it seems with the music they produce.

I discovered this webcomic at 11:00 P.M. and couldn't stop reading it. Now it's 4:00 A.M., way past my bedtime and I've got a huge smile on my face. Funny, sweet, true-to-life character interactions, compelling characters, lovely art. So well done and so much fun!

The number of things I'm a true fanboy about I can count on the fingers of one hand, but I'm now a fanboy of Buying Time. I look forward to spreading the word. Bravo. :)

I starting reading this not knowing what I would get into. I meanly started reading it because of the praise that alex woolfson gave it and loving his work as I do I decided to give it a try. I really do like it the story is good and so are the drawings. For a BL fangirl as myself I love finding web comics and it is nice to see how different their are form my usual yaoi manga book. I hope you keep doing what you are doing.

Hey there, hope the waiting game isn't too tough! And I've got a between-chapter-hiatus coming up soon (though I always try to still update weekly with some kind of goodies) Glad to have you along.

This webcomic is just amazing! I should have been commenting as I was reading, page by page, but I was too impatient to get to the next one.
Alex Woolfson of YAOI911 recommended Buying Time on his latest page update earlier today and I'm very happy he did -I've spent all my Saturday afternoon reading it and I have no regrets! I love the concept of it, the unique format, Vinnie is adorable and your art is just stunning!
Thank you for sharing your work, looking forward to more :)

(p.s: do you plan on printing this somehow? The format would obviously be different so I'm curious if that's an option.)
Notos 10th May 2014, 2:24 PM edit delete reply
Thats for the kind words. I've thought about print, and have been asked the question a few times before, but I'm just not sure how I'd be able to do it, or how well it would translate (Not having animations would be a problem for a number of pages). I'll most likely do a 'Complete Edition' when it's all done, maybe throw in a commentary and some goodies and sell it on Flash Drives, but as far as print goes I'm just not sure how I'd do it...
Sofia 10th May 2014, 9:00 PM edit delete reply
Well, if you figure out a way to do it, I'm sure there would be plenty of people to back you in a Kickstarter campaign.

Hi there. Truth be told I haven't advertised the comic that much, I posted it on a couple of webcomic hubs, but I'm a but, shall we say 'behind the times' when it comes to twitter, facebook and all that jazz, so the bulk of traffic comes from word of mouth I think. Still, glad to have ya!

heh, another Alex W. fan coming on down because of the recommendation. WOW! This is like super cute and adorable! The history and set up of this world is so...so BELIEVABLE its great! I love this webcomic and can't wait to see where this continues going :DDD

I'm not gonna lie I am still very intrigued about what was under the "Advanced" section of the adult only package lmao! And also if it's adult only, does that mean teenager's can't do the physical contact because of age restrictions on the adult only packages? Or is it that they couldn't afford it??? Just wondering!
Notos 10th May 2014, 2:33 PM edit delete reply
Great question, yunno I hadn't even thought about those kind of restrictions for teenagers and the adult only interaction packages. Maybe 'adult only' is just a formality, kind of like it is in our world with movies and videogames, a rating system nobody actually pays attention to. I'm sure Swain Corp. is just happy to get their money.

I don't remember where, but I found your comic last year when you only had a few pages up, but due to computer problems shortly after I lost my booksmarks - and by that the link to this. Couldn't remember the title and I didn't see anyone mention it again, until now that is :D

I can't wait to catch up on this comic when I get back from vacation.

Vinny doesn't seem the type to let fame, exposure, etc. to get his head. In fact, he sounds kind of like me- and i'm the complete opposite. I'm not looking for fame, or money, and even though i'm gaining a bit of exposure (i'm self employed) I still live a very, very low key life (both socially and financially). I think he'd be more of the type to spend it writing more songs- and spending time with Galvin, maybe take him out a date or two- than moving to a higher level or buying things. I suppose I could be totally wrong though.. guess i'll see!
Notos 11th May 2014, 2:04 PM edit delete reply

Is they ANYWAY we can help? Alex has a 'pay me for update and I can post quicker' option; would that help? So you can pay for someone to help you or something?

Ha, thanks for the offer but I'm not sure there is. I do BT on my free time outside of working fulltime (as an animator, no less) So it's not something I feel I can replace my job with. I've also made it my stance to keep BT free. I just keep rolling and hope my readers are patient when I do my 'between chapter catch up' hiatus'.

I was also sent by Alex (he has awesome taste in comics).
This is AWESOME! I love how much content we get per page. I tended to wind up watching the scrolling lights on the elevators for a few min before I remember to click.
One note: it took me a bit to figure out when you up date. If you could put it by the title or navigation bar that would be awesome!
Notos 11th May 2014, 2:13 PM edit delete reply
Yes good comment, I used to have it listed on my banner at the top, but removed it for whatever reason when I changed the design. I intend to put it back there at the start of next chapter when I update. (For anyone else wondering, it updates Sundays!)

Another reader who was sent by Alex and spent their Saturday catching up. Truly a unique format that I'm immensely intrigued by - it looks like so much work! I would love some sort of suggestion for donations - what is the sort of workload that goes into something like this? I think a lot of people would appreciate funding you for your work - much like Vinnie, I'm sure a fellow artist's life isn't easy.

The storyline is absolutely beautiful, as are the characters and drawings.
Notos 11th May 2014, 2:15 PM edit delete reply
Hey there, thanks a lot. The workoad depends on the page, and how many poses it needs. My latest 'rhythm' for production is 1 week for roughs, and 1 week for cleans and animations. Basically 2 weeks per page. I appreciate donations but don't expect them, or require them for the comic to continue :) (I just hope readers understand and are patient with when I need to take catch-up breaks)
ZombieLove 11th May 2014, 3:56 AM edit delete reply

Another Alex W. referral. Bashed through all of this today. I love it. Wonderful storytelling, pacing and art. I like the animation, makes for a more interactive story and a POD from some other works. Love The Young Protectors, but will be putting this in my bookmarks too.

As others have mentioned, if you had a donation box or needed funding through Kickstarter etc. you could consider me a contributor!
Seth 11th May 2014, 12:55 PM edit delete reply
Yet another new reader from Alex's bandwagon here. Loving the world-building, but there's something that's been bugging me about it that maybe you could clarify. The presence of group rates in the adult-only packages is a clear indication that fees scale according to the number of people interacting. So far, all the social interaction we've seen has been one-on-one or small group, which would make it relatively easy to calculate fees. Yet, in the real world, so much social interaction occurs in online venues where participation is open to all comers (and there's not even any guarantee that a given post will be read by anyone at all). This society is more technologically advanced than ours, and the speed of electronic dissemination of music suggests that it has something analogous to the Internet. I have to wonder how Swaine Corp would even begin to come up with a schedule of fees that's consistent and reasonable (well, as reasonable as it can be) for something like that. Or do they just outlaw social media and forums so they don't have to deal with it?

I've also been wondering about the monitoring of physical contact. Are there cameras everywhere? That would add a whole extra level of creepiness.
Notos 11th May 2014, 2:33 PM edit delete reply
Hey there, quite a long question! Are you referring to the 'Group Discount' part? That was more of a joke than anything, a jab at Vinnie being so vanilla he wouldn't even know what it implies. I try to imply that in this world, the system of DLC has somewhat put a damper on social interaction in general, so we start seeing a lot of people like Vinnie (at the start of the story) who would rather just not bother. As far as how they came up with a schedule of fees, I imagine it was something that happened slowly and gradually enough that people were just complacent about it happening. I compare it a lot to microtransactions in video games. At one point, it just didn't exist. Then it slowly became 'a thing'. Now it's pretty much standard.

As far as monitoring goes, yes there are cameras, sensors, mics, the whole nine yards. Think about what devices have cameras now; our phones, laptops, even gaming consoles. Imagine 600+ years from now. I made a pun about this in chapter 2 (I Think) when the shower comments on how Galvin looks.
Hope that helps!

Do I need to mention who'm I heard of your comic from (*coughyoungprotectorscough*), and I must say this animated style is AMAZING!! Each page feels less like a single page and more like a scene or something, which is super cool (Oh and I'm glad you added to back button, that's handy, and the characters feel very real too. I tend not to like naked stuff but you do it very well that it isn't an issue for me here. Oh and I've been pacing myself a little with this, I did NOT stay up all night haha.

Also just curious, are you ever going to go into more detail regarding those hidden sub-levels (the gang-ridden ones that is the only "off the network" place inside the city), they sound intriging, even if they're dangerous.
Notos 12th May 2014, 1:15 PM edit delete reply
