And here's hoping that their work from recording would pay off! But yikes... that much for a DPL? That doesn't really save much, does it? :/
Smeck 25th Jan 2015, 3:11 PM edit delete reply
I think it's comparable to buying a house. And the discount afterwards really is steep.
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 5:11 PM edit delete reply
Steep indeed. Gotta dissuade the general populace from trying to jump on the bandwagon!
Mothra 26th Jan 2015, 1:53 AM edit delete reply
That's interesting. So not a lot of people have dpl's?
Notos 26th Jan 2015, 3:06 AM edit delete reply
Wealthy upper levels "yuppies" do, but I imagine a big portion of the mid and lower level population don't.

Hurray Chapter 6!! One thing though, in "panel" 13, it should be 'a better idea...' instead of 'abetter idea...' A space is needed there. Also, hurray Chapter 6!!!! :D
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 5:08 PM edit delete reply
Yep thanks, caught it just as I uploaded : P
Arterian 25th Jan 2015, 3:19 PM edit delete reply
I really wonder how that whole points system ever came to be in the first place. It feels so incredibly prohibitive, and over what you'd imagine are the most basic of human interactions, but everyone seems fine with it.

In this city it seems, the best things in life ain't free.
Powerplayer 25th Jan 2015, 3:28 PM edit delete reply
I like how you put it, Arterian. And you're right, of course; it is all so prohibitive. Kinda like the law system in Judge Dredd.

I have to wonder though, what happened to make the situation like that. Or was it always like that? And if so, then what's gonna happen to Vinnie?
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 5:13 PM edit delete reply
You'd be surprised at how complacent people are, and how willing they are to turn a blind eye to things changing negatively over the course of time if it's gradual.
The entire concept of DLC is inspired by DLC in video games, we (or at least, I) never imagined it would be as exploitative as it is now, but here we are.
John 26th Jan 2015, 6:57 PM edit delete reply
I had often wondered if DLC in games was your inspiration, I was sorta hoping for an 'ask Notos...' segment one day in which to ask it (and a host of other questions)
Notos 27th Jan 2015, 1:28 PM edit delete reply
Consider the comments section "ask Notos" ;) I try to answer any questions I see.
Ha'kel 25th Jan 2015, 3:46 PM edit delete reply
MmMMMMmmm here we go. I almost forgot this was happening. I'm worried because if the push to move in with each other wasn't enough, I'm thinking the cost of the thing is more than Galvin would pay just to cover both of their DLCs, and spending at least 42.5k on a DPL with Vinnie (although it might end up more, since it would take Vinnie a while to save up) would look really irresponsible to Galvin's sister. And all of that so Vinnie can feel more comfortable. Vin, I get where you're coming from, but it just isn't logical.

I know things are gonna get bumpier and it's gonna break my heart. Thank you for the update, I'm so excited for this chapter!

I was reading this weeks comic while playing iTunes radio, and Børns "Seeing Stars" will forever remind me of these two xD.
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 5:14 PM edit delete reply
Not familiar with that artist, I'll check them out!

Please do so :D
Fairycancel 25th Jan 2015, 4:58 PM edit delete reply
I love your comic! By the way, I believe that in panel 13(?) when it says: "We'll have a better idea of what do to" should be changed to "We'll have a better idea of what to do"

I am really happy that the comic is back, I look forward to each update.
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 5:20 PM edit delete reply
Fixed, thanks!

No problem man, in fact, I am actually happy I can help in something I like so much ^_^
Fevley 25th Jan 2015, 5:43 PM edit delete reply
You know why I like this comic? It's because when characters are feeling down or misunderstood, they TELL people. There's no letting it fester for the sake of drama. Adults dealing with adult problems LIKE adults instead of like slighted teenagers makes for an incredibly rewarding read. Thank you for sharing this story with us :]
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:08 PM edit delete reply
There will be times here and there where they (mainly Vinnie) bottle it up, but I like to write him being more open as time goes by.
Finz_ 25th Jan 2015, 5:56 PM edit delete reply
Aaand we're off! Out of curiosity, got a name for the favorite local burger joint in Hyperion? Saw the fries =P
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:07 PM edit delete reply
The color scheme used is from Deunan's Hotdogs which is Galvin's favorite fast food joint.
SilverLion 25th Jan 2015, 6:03 PM edit delete reply
Hella drama. That seems like a pretty high price for that particular license. I mean, it's only $61.00 in my state ($93.50 for non-residents). Have you figured out what the conversion rate is? That is, credits to dollars, just to give us a frame of reference.
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:10 PM edit delete reply
No I try to avoid any sort of conversion rate for that reason, so people don't compare it to any current economics, I find that kind of "dates" future settings. But yeah, it's certainly not cheap, I wanted it to seem borderline unobtainable so not everyone in the city jumps on it as an 'easy out' and to give an idea of how badly the system nickel and dimes people.
ObsidianGamer 25th Jan 2015, 8:05 PM edit delete reply
I don't know if it's just my imagination. But the comic seems to be in a slightly higher definition. The images just look a lot sharper than before.
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:11 PM edit delete reply
Hmm not sure, I've been using the same program from the start, mind you it's done in Vector so it might be because I drew the assets larger than usual for this page and scaling them down gave them a sharper look. But still the same old method as always!

If you've recently updated your flash player, that could have something to do with it. Mine updated just today.

Oh wow, and you have to be *approved* to move in together. Poor Vinnie, can't win for losin'.

Maybe they should make a break for the surface. Maybe the harsh living arrangements up there is all propaganda!! -- I can dream!
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:13 PM edit delete reply
Yep, still gotta be approved even after the hefty registration fee. They don't make it easy!
Jackarais 25th Jan 2015, 9:13 PM edit delete reply
Oh my gods, the background on the last panel is just mesmerizing.
Thank you for taking the time to put all this innumerable effort into this beautiful comic, dude.
Never stop. I must see this story through to the end!
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:14 PM edit delete reply
Thanks! I will certainly see it through to the end, I've seen a lot of my favorite webcomics get dropped and it totally sucks.
Also still digging Bicycle Boy, I've been quiet but am still reading every update.
Jackarais 25th Jan 2015, 11:13 PM edit delete reply
Holy hell, seriously? I didn't realize.
It certainly is an honor that someone so talented would want to read my comic, as well. :'D
Keep up the great work!!
Ttownlittlebear 25th Jan 2015, 9:28 PM edit delete reply
Love all to movement in the background of the last panel, especially what I'm guessing is "rain". It must take a lot of time to do..
Notos 25th Jan 2015, 10:17 PM edit delete reply
It certainly is a lot of work, but I adore cyberpunk city aesthetic so I find it worth it. I am often in awe by other artists city depictions and strive to get as good as them.
Ovnuniarchos 25th Jan 2015, 11:27 PM edit delete reply
This will mean a month for the application to be reviewed, and at least two for Vinnie to get the cash.

Unless they both kick it into serious overtime hours at HCC!

Looks like they are about to make one of the biggest decisions of their lives, and that's not easy. I dated my wife for 10 years before I married her. Lol. I can't believe she hung on that long! Anyway, by that time we were practically married anyway. Of course my wife was the first real serious relationship I had ever been in! Yup, I had never lived with anyone else before her. I can't even imagine what life is like for people who go through partner after partner, never able to find the right one. I had girlfriends before my wife of course, but I decided I was tired of the dating game and wanted to commit to one person, someone who I thought would love and respect me, and I think I made the right decision. I really enjoy the stability of my situation, and not having to fear being alone ever again. Nothing is worse than being alone.
Great update!
Notos 26th Jan 2015, 2:59 AM edit delete reply
Yeah similar with my boyfriend, he was the first serious one, never lived with anyone before, and the prospect of moving in together was essentially bigger than marriage. It was a scary step!

Draginbeard 26th Jan 2015, 8:36 PM edit delete reply
This was a money conversation, Im glad Ive never had to have.

The awkward and uncomfortable subject of DLC, added a neat run around robinhoods barn to actually discussing how they felt about the relationship.

And of course the 'how we really feel' pressure is off as they kick the can down the road for a few weeks.

This was a nice thoughtful look at how, even a simple relationship can get complicated in a hurry!
mountain0goat 26th Jan 2015, 9:19 PM edit delete reply
Glad to see Buying Time back on track :-)
Notos 27th Jan 2015, 1:35 PM edit delete reply
Yeah I imagine living in Hyperion puts any relationship on blast, having a 'simple' one is definitely easy-mode here.

I've been so busy . . . only now have I had the chance to read the latest update. But I've been thinking about it since Sunday.
Even now, I don't have the time to write a thoughtful reply. I'm just happy you're back with the next chapter. :D
Thanks for your awesomeness!

I love this comic, and Bicycle Boy as well, so doubly glad to see both authors so actively posting and responding to their fans here. Thanks for writing such smart books. I'd love to know what your favorite print comics are, what inspires you. I'm a recent convert to Image's "Morning Glories," but wish they could be as consistent with their production schedule as you are with "Buying Time" -- thanks for the hard work!
Notos 28th Jan 2015, 1:36 PM edit delete reply
Thanks Erik!
I'm inspired by way too much stuff to list it all, but as far as comics and manga go I'll buy anything from Yukito Kishiro who creates Battle Angel, anything Ghost in the Shell related, I'm currently collecting Tera Formars. For comics I tend to gravitate toward action horror so I read a lot of stuff from Avatar like Crossed, Caliban, Uber, all over-the-top with violence but fun page turners, they are like horror movies in comic form. After that it kind of breaks down to specific artists I enjoy. Richard Moore, Dale Keown, Jim Starlin, too many to list.
