Almost exactly 3 years ago I started pre-production on what I originally planned to be a brief animated short. A few months later on April of 2013 I uploaded the first page of Buying Time, the largest and most ambitious personal project I've ever done.
I feel like I've been in labor for 3 years! Phew. This was a very intense and demanding project, but also extremely rewarding and enjoyable, largely in part to readers like you, yes you, my autonoms. If you read a single page of Buying Time, thank you. If you commented, thank you. If you were along for the entire journey, thank you. You've made this project a real ride.
I'll post pertinent updates regarding my art, and my future projects here, and to my Twitter. I can be reached on both, as well as my email listed in the About tab.
(Updated) Big thanks to Barbara, Kendall, Kyler, Charles, Martin, Michael, Bas, Anthony, Steven, Cody, Jonathan, Bas, Anthony, George, Kyle, Russell, Joseph, Andrew, Matthew, Andreas, Lovel, Dennis, Alan and Panda who donated to the comic reccently, very much appreciate your support guys, much love!
Thanks BigBear, I'll certainly be doing more in the future, after a little bit of downtime and random art stuff you'll be seeing more of another big project, stay tuned.
Buying Time has been one of the highlights of my weekend for over a year now. It will be missed. I do look forward to your next venture. With your talent, I know we will be entertained.
I really loved this comic I must say is the best I have seen in a long time, im kinda sad that the story ends, I hope maybe someday you decide to continue the story, thanks for the good times Notos.
This has been so enjoyable and even though Im sad its over, I think you did the right thing - ended the comic at the right place and right time, so it feels like there are still a lot of story and nothing has been dragged out. And I wouldnt expect less. Throughout the entire comic the comic has been very mature and tasteful, never being boring or cheesy, but telling just enough, so I kept having an appetite for more :)
I'd wish more yaoi artists were like you - creating REAL stories with maturity and heart, instead of all the teenage angsty stuff out there.
Thank you SO MUCH for entertaining us every sunday for years :) It has been so much fun and I wish you all the best in life!^^
Thanks so much Christina, glad you enjoyed it! I tried to find a personal mix of stuff that *I* would enjoy reading in a comic, so I'm really glad it appealed to others too! Best wishes back at you.
Aw, I'm so sad it's over! Mostly because I really want to know more about them, and what the future holds for them (and maybe their world at large). I'll be looking forward to any other projects you're willing to share with us :D
Thanks Anny, I'm hoping I left it off at a satisfying place, enough to leave some avenues of thought open yet still give closure to the biggest ones. Cheers and glad you enjoyed it!
It was quite the ride. I really enjoyed how well done this comic was. The art direction was really stunning and the story itself was pretty nice as well.
I look forward to whatever projects you do in the future! :)
Such a great way to end the comic. :)
I can't even begin to imagine how many hours you spent working on this over the past three years. But I, and so many other readers here, truly appreciate what you've given us.
Now, for your own sanity, TAKE A LONG BREAK before even considering to tackle your next project.
Thanks for the ride! *hugs*
Thanks Grall, very glad to have had you along for the ride, always appreciated your comments. Glad you enjoy it, it would be impossible to know the hours put into it! Hope you enjoy the next one, I will indeed be taking a bit of downtime.
<3 <3 <3 What a perfect end. Still struggling but hanging in there. Thank you for the comic, and for hanging out with us fans, too. Looking forward to seeing what you do next!
Thanks Rex!
I likely wont be using the same address, I might still use comicfury if I decide to go with some kind of flash format, we'll see. Regardless I'll let readers know what happens.
I really loved your comic and I'm so sorry to see that it's over but I had to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to what you do next. Thank you for all the time you put into this and for sharing it with all of us.
It's over? Noooooooooo! I'm going to miss these guys and gals.:-( It has been a pleasure reading. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. Looking forward to your next venture :-)
Buying Time was really masterfully balanced - for me the animation always enhanced and never overwhelmed the storytelling. I enjoyed your very unique world very much and really loved your character development - how Vinnie learned to be strong and Galvin accepted to be weak sometimes. I really hope you'll visit them again some day. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Related to my running out of road comment from my post on Ch8pg8, this ending gave my heart a bridge to drive on into the sunset with a smile and a tear. Simply brilliant. Will definitely be looking forward to what you do next. LLAP.
Hey thanks natranr, yeah it feels weird that it's not just another hiatus! In terms of me continuing to create art and stories it is just another hiatus though, more to come sometime down the line!
I've been an avid reader of the last two years, and it's been great seeing this story unfold. Thank you so much for your great work and dedication to this project Notos!
So I saw this posed on reddit's /r/gaybros subreddit and I've just read your comic from beginning to end in the matter of a few hours.
VERY WELL DONE! This is a very well written and portrayed multi-model piece! I really hope you revisit this world in the future there's a ton of potential in this source material and I'll definitely be looking out for your future projects!
So I only just discovered this comic a couple months ago and I absolutely love it! This ending is leaving me with that sad feeling of the last episode of your favorite tv show that you've been following for years, and that's damn impressive! What am I going to look forward to on Sundays now?
I cannot tell you how deeply this story moved and satisfied me. It is a compelling, beautiful story with diverse and rich characters and a homosexual main couple; that alone would have been enough to make it into a cherished story, but you went so much further. Every scene, every panel, is gorgeous and detailed, the story is emotional wihout being maudlin, it made me cry and cheer, and it was a good, solid sci fi story with a clear premise and good follow through. Thank you for sharing this with us. It is precious, and I treasure the experience of having read it.
Thanks so much Gilderbeast, I'm glad the story touched you, it's comments like this that inspire me to keep making stuff for people to enjoy, thanks for reading!
I am so glad and relieved the story wasn't a sobfest.
Oftentimes stories about queer characters go in whole hog into tragedy, letting darkness and sorrow and circumstance overwhelm any chance at happiness. Here the opposite happens: the striving for better things (happiness, love, friends, time) acts as the focus, it is a bad world filled with good people and opportunities despite a rigged system.
Again thanks.
Gotta throw my two cents in as well and thank you for seeing this project through. From the beginning when I first discovered BT up until now I've thoroughly enjoyed each update. Eager to find out what's next for you, I'll keep an eye out. Congrats, Notos!
This has been one of the most beautifully done, well written comics I've ever had the pleasure of reading and I read a crap ton of webcomics! One can easily tell that this was indeed a labour of love. Thank you most sincerely for creating this gem, Notos.
This is so bittersweet. It saddens me to see the end, but you prepared us for it though. The characters are in a good place, and I'm happy about that. I hope your creative light continues to burn brightly. Buena suerte, Notos, mis mejores deseos!
Thanks a lot Isis Marie, really glad to have had you along for the ride, your comments were a pleasure to read, happy you enjoyed it, see you in the future for the next one I hope!
With just a few scenes each week, you managed to create a new world that felt interesting and believable and told us a story that mattered about the people who lived in it. That's no easy task, and I'm grateful to you for giving the rest of us this gift. Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors.
Dawww, it's over! Well, it's been totally fun to experience! You've crafted an excellent, absorbing universe with strong characters with realistic feelings. Buying Time has been clever, creative, quirky and quite touching. THANK YOU!
Thank you for everything! I have always loved this comic and have enjoyed it completely. You opened my eyes to a new way of storytelling with the animated aspects of it. I can't wait for the next story you tell.
p.s. put your twitter in the description so we can know when updates come!
Thanks Lunar glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun experiment, a new format, I'm glad it ballooned into something big people enjoyed. My Twitter link is at the top, just below the comic frame.
Getting so much sad new tonight will make it hard to sleep, but hey this one ended a great high note ^^.
Its been a jounry here one that I do over and over again if given the choice. I wish i had more to give then my thanks on this, since it really helped me open up aswell as a person.
Take Care,
As one person told me such a long time ago: "Take heart for you're dreams will sour far above the starry night sky to be captivated by all in the night".
Thanks Icegodes, appreciate you sharing your experience, I've heard from a few readers say they have tried to open up more and try new things because of Buying Time and it's really special to hear that, glad it has inspired you!
Absolutely incredible comic, very sad to see it end. Fantastic artwork, heart-warming characters and story as well as some cheeky nudity to boot! I'll definitely need to watch closely and see what you move on to next.
Kudos on not being afraid to show full frontal in a world where it's still far more shocking and taboo to display a human body without clothes than a dismembered corpse.
This has definitely been the highlight of my comic-roll each week, I recommended it to a good few friends and I can safely say they each agree it's one of our all time fav's
This would make an adorable/incredible animated short which'd likely scoop up an award or two for the subject matter and world-building I'd reckon though I feel you on how tough it'd be to realise.
Your character/fan interaction issues between chapters were also very fun and enjoyable! Really gave them some extra depth in a way a printed medium couldn't effectively manage. I love how you really used the online/digital aspect to full effect with all the subtle animations and panel transitions and such.
I could rant and rave about this comic for hours but yeah thank you so much for the last 3 years of weekly joy! Good luck with your future projects!
Thanks Istauri, appreciate your thoughts on Buying Time and glad you enjoyed it! Anyone familiar with my work knows I'm no stranger to fanservice, though I try to approach it from a point that makes it fun, campy and sexy rather than excessive. I've certainly made an effort to not be afraid of depicting anything either. They way art should be! Hope to see you down the line for my next project.
Been here the whole while. Got Papa to answer a question. Looking forward to your next thing. I'll probably be there, too, lookin' for more cute fellas to oggle and fun stories to ride along with.
Thanks for being here for the entire ride then, and contributing to stuff like the Q&A segments too! It was a fun experiment, that wouldn't have worked out without creative and willing readers, I likely enjoyed creating them as much as you did participating.
There's so many comments mine will probably get lost but...it's been a HELL of a ride. This became one of my favorite comics, something I looked forward to every week and I'm sad to see the end. (I may have shed a few tears...) I'll keep checking here to see if you have something new coming out. Vinnie and Galvin til the end of time!
I've read every comment from day 1, and am making an effort to reply to everyone here for this last page. Thanks a lot Phate, glad you enjoyed the comic and that it touched you! Hope to see you for the next one!
Easily one of the best webcomics I've ever read. Your hard work and dedication really showed in every (amazing) page. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Very, very excited to see what else you come up with in the future :)
Thanks for the high praise! Glad you enjoyed it so much. Hope you enjoy the next one, it'll be quite different in theme and tone from BT but I always try to put all my effort into each project!
Thanks apocalypticnight, glad to hear it touched you. It didn't hit me until I started reading people's comments here, but yeah feels weird it's finally done!
I forgot to ever say, but I love the lingo like autonom, nitro, etc. :-) It adds a nice little layer to have this futuristic slang worked in so neatly.
I'm so glad I read Buying Time. I love a good few webcomics, but this one has been especially special thanks to all the work you put in to it. I'll keep my eye out for more of your work. After all, I was first drawn here by your art style. Thanks allot!
Just read this all in one sitting and am stunned I hadn't found this before now. I love this, thank you so much for all your hard work making this incredible piece of art!
Hi Amalia, welcome aboard! Yeah a few brand new readers reccently, a link must have been posted somewhere. Really glad you enjoyed it so much, thanks a lot!
Such an awesome piece of art! The story was so good, the characters interesting. And an animated webcomic! I loved sitting down to this so much - thank you thank you; I hope your career takes you far!
All good things must come to an end, truly one of my favorite web reads. This was astounding from beginning to end. Much love friend, excited to see what come in the future <3
This has been such a wonderful read. Really love your art, the story, and the characters. So good to see it get such a beautiful and peaceful ending. Looking forward to your next projects! <3
I've been here since the beginning of chapter 2 after a recommendation and I've loved every page so much so that I have popped my comment cherry to tell you so!
I'm sorry it has ended but thank you so much for seeing it through to the end. I'm really grateful that no matter what else you had on you kept going - it's very refreshing.
oh wow. im so sad this is over. it was an amzing journey though. im glad i got to see it. i am really looking forward to your next project. you've been a huge inspiration to me. i've always been worried about making stories centered around gay people. you've given me a lot of confidence on that front. so thank you! when i finally start my webcomic, it's going to be gay as hell!
Thanks a lot sirBloble, really happy to heave I've inspired you. good luck with your comic if you go forward with it, don't compromise your vision, make what YOU want and an audience will find you if your passion shows through.
It's so sad that this is over, but it was an interesting, enjoyable and delightful trip. A trip that I'm not going to forget so easily and that I'll keep with me.
Thank you a lot for this story (story that I'm not going to get over with so easily! I'll miss all of them...) and I'll hope to see more of your future projects!
And again: THANK YOU!!
This has been such a sweet and moving comic. The artwork has been amazing and I've loved the animated backgrounds and the illusion of movement you've created on so many pages!
Plus it's an amazing setting!
Really sad to know it's finished. Will be looking forward to whatever you decide to work on next (though I imagine you are going to have some well deserved rest!)
Thanks! It was really fun to experiment with a new format, something I've never tried before, and I'm happy it seemed to have come out well, hope to see ya on the next project!
This was one of the most entertaining comics i've ever read. i was here with these guys since the beggining and i'm really happy with the ending. i will sincerely miss this :`( bye from Chile
Hi Esteban, glad to have had you along for the ride, thanks for the high praise! I'll miss the characters too, it's been a pleasure working on them. Bye (for now) from Canada!
I haven't commented much, but I'm one of the readers that came aboard when Alex recced this over at the Young Protectors. I was just going to have a little peek, maybe read the first chapter or two, then ended up reading until the wee hours of the morning.
I hadn't seen anything like this kind of format before. It was so exciting to see all the wonderful flash animation, and all the loving detail you put into each page. But more than that, you made us care about Vinnie, Galvin, Fridge, Galena, Papa and the others. That's why I stayed along for the ride, and why I'm sorry to see it end. But it was a great ending. Thank you! Just like I followed Alex from Artifice to The Young Protectors, you can bet I'll be on the lookout for your next project.
P.S.- Mackie got together with Benton? Cool! Good to see her find love.
Hey there, thanks! I owe a lot to Alex pointing out BT, I gained a large amount of new readers. Really glad you enjoyed the story so much, hope you like the next one too! I was indeed hinting at Mackie and Benton being a thing.
Heya! I can't tell you how much I absolutely LOVE this comic. The artwork, the story, the setting, the characters... I can absolutely go on and say everything I love about it. I just found out about this comic from a subreddit and binged read it through free cafe wifi's. Every chapter was a blast, and the ending was beautiful.
But don't take this the wrong way, but I feel like there's something missing. And it's bigger than not finding out Vinnie's reaction to Galvin's reason being offgrid, or if Sybil and Fridge are still dating. I still want to know what happens at the end of Galvin's dream. I feel like there's a hidden meaning to the rocket that I never got.
Seeing this comic and reading through your comics and your working on it through jobs has made me feel like I could write my story. I'd been thinking of writing a novel since highschool, and now I'm all done with college and working. I enjoy writing to the bone, and if I'm ever gonna do something I love, it'll have to be through hard work and sacrifice. And this comic has inspired me to push through with it.
It might not end up being anything I imagined it would be, or might end up never seeing the light of day. But I guess we'll see what happens :)
Indeed I didn't explore Galvin's dream too much, I mostly used it as a method of introducing Galvin's turmoil/inability to move on and deal with his fathers death. The dream was inspired by a real one I had myself, though that is where the parallel ends (both my parents are alive) like most dreams it was cryptic and didn't make much sense to me, though I thought it would work well as a visual cue to Galvin having a weakness. I suppose it could have been done using flashbacks to when his father was alive, but I enjoyed the visuals the dream sequence allowed me to do.
I hope you do write your story, as I've said to others who mentioned being inspired, don't compromise your vision, be as bold as you want and create what YOU want, an audience will find you.
Thanks Crystal! I may return to this world sometime, though not before a bit of an 'art break' and then my next project. Indeed these are places I can take things if I want, possible uprising/rebellion, heading out into the wastelands, music career etc. We'll see!
i've been following this comic for the past two years and i've absolutely loved it from day one and i think it will always mean a lot to me. i look forward to following your future work and wish you the best of luck!
Thank you so much for this amazing comic! I've loved the characters, setting, and comcept from day 1 and am sad to see this end. I hope this comic will remain on the web so more people can view it.
Thank you so much for making this story--I don't usually like happy endings, but this one hit a sweet spot. I feel really satisfied having read the end of this.
For life in a freaky cyberpunk future, you managed to tell a damn adorable down-to-earth romance and I LOVE IT.
Will we be seeing any more projects from you? I'd hate this to be the last.
Thanks Jackarais, glad to have had you along! Still digging each page of Bicycle Boy too.
I tried to hit a nice 'neutral' spot for the ending, not too mushy and happy, not too dark.
I will certainly be working on another comic project in the future, hoping to get some stuff going around summertime, but we'll see, never know how long pre-production takes. Cheers.
This was such an amazing and well put together story. I'm very happy to have found it. I've been following this since your first page (if you remember, I was the one who suggested a back button on your pages!), and while I haven't been very active on this site anymore, I would still check back every sunday. It's gonna be weird not doing that anymore. But stories always have to end. Cant expect them to go on forever, can we? I loved this all the way through. Thank you for it.
Thanks a lot Marlee, glad to have had you along, and thankful for your comments and feedback, I do indeed remember the interface suggestion and appreciated it! (Clearly, as it become a feature!) Hope to see you again for whatever comes next.
I actually started reading this comic at the beginning of this year, and all I can say is that I regret that I wasn't along for the initial ride. I binged the entire things within a week whenever I could find time, and I just want to say thank you for creating something so beautiful. The story ended at a more than satisfying place, so don't worry about that. Yours is truly a unique work of art that deserves all the fans and recognition it has earned and even beyond that. I hope to be witness to your next project, as I believe that it will be something just as wonderful as this, if not more so. I'm sending you lots of love, and thank you again for putting this beautiful piece into a world that so needs more of this
Thanks a lot of a wonderful story, the art and presentation are so unique that i'm pretty sad it's over and i'll miss my weekly dose of Vinnie, but i'm looking forward to what you'll do next! <3
Thank you for one of the most creative comics I've read in a long, long time, both in story and technical delivery. And not-so-secretly hoping you return to this world one day
Excited to see what you do next! Also, have you considered Patreon for your next long term project? It's been a great way for me to set up monthly donations to other webcomics I follow...
Hey Johnathan, thanks! And thanks a lot for your donation too, appreciate the support! I've considered Patreon, it wasn't really right for BT but I might look into it for the next project, depends on if I'm still maintaining a full time job when the next project gets going, etc. We'll see!
Waited a week because I couldn't muster the words. I still can't decide how I feel; I'm a heady mix of sad and happy that it's finishing. Pretty sure I'm not the only one.
Sad, because this has been a wonderful story in so many ways. Beautiful art, a unique premise, interesting characters, exquisite attention to detail and excellent storytelling… It's a rare and compelling combination, one of the things I looked forward to every weekend, and I'm so sorry to see it go.
Happy, because it's finishing so, so well—as it had to eventually. The big decisions we knew had to be made… are made. Their future isn't certain, but it's hardly precarious—if anything, the long term looks pretty promising. It's a wonderful place to leave us, and we can easily imagine what might come next without having it spelled out.
Finally, I'm glad because you must be so ready for this. You told this story very, very well and expended huge amounts of time and energy to give it life. After giving three years of your life to this project, I'm sure you can't wait to move on to something new; heck, someone less ridiculously disciplined than you would have done so long before now!
Thank you so much, Notos. I'm so lucky to have enjoyed the fruits of your talent, dedication and generosity, and look forward to seeing whatever you decide to do next.
(Hopefully after you take some quality personal time!)
Thanks a lot Jordan, glad to have had you along for the ride and happy you enjoyed the comic so much! I feel the same, both happy and sad it's over. Relieved, but excited to start on something fresh. Hopefully the next project will resonate with people as much as BT did, it's going to be much different in theme and tone but we'll see, I always try to mix things up with each project. Thanks again for reading!
i came he just a few days ago, cant believe is over, i was expecting for more, but i was a great story, love everypart of it, sadly this adventure only last one day for me u.u
I've been putting off reading the last instalment - after all, if I haven't read it, then it hasn't ended. :) Thankyou Notos for your time, dedication, persistence and talent in bringing this story to us. Have a great break, and come back soon with more. :) I hope one day we come back to this universe - its ultimately an interesting concept, and still has more story in it I think.
Is there any possibility of there ever being a continuation? Or at least and epilogue?? I'd really love to know! This is by far, my favorite web comic I've ever read!
I might consider a continuation but not until after my next project is finished, will in itself might take a few years. So this conclusion will have to satisfy for now! Glad you enjoyed BT so much, thanks!
thanks for this heavy and nice work
it came to its end and now we are looking for the next story
i really liked to read it page after page , week after week
I've been following this comic for years, and I've often told my friends it is one of the most visually stunning projects I've come across. I'm going to miss it, but thank you so much for putting so much of your time and effort into it! (And for actually finishing it, so many comic artists lose their motivation and abandon projects!) Good luck in all your future endeavors, and I hope to see more work from you in the future!
Thanks fluffyrhino it's been a pleasure, and yeah I've been following a couple different webcomics that were abandoned even just during my time producting BT, so I know what drag it is! Hope you enjoy what I create next!
i know this is a little late but anyway.. congratulations and thank you for sharing this wonderful experience it's really been a great ride!! kudos to you notos :D
I just... I can't believe this is the end. I have been following Buying Time since mid episode 2, and this is the most awesome comic I've found. It has and incredible story and a really good illustration.
I just can't believe I won't see another post. I'm way too sad :c
But is my obligation to congratulate you for this awesome piece of art. You are awesome.
This was an incredible journey and I'm really glad I've been part of it, in the shadows xd.
You are an amazing artist, and please keep doing these kind of projects. You are really good at it.
Greets from Chile!
yeah feels weird to be done, I suddenly have free time! At least until the next project starts up. Thanks for the comments, really glad you enjoyed the story! Greets from Canada.
Wow, I just caught up with Buying Time after a long break because of life, only to find that it's ended. It's a great story and really well done; I'm sad it's over! Good luck on everything in the future, Notos! It was a lot of fun reading Buying Time!
Wow, has it really been 3 years? Time just flies by! Loved this story. I wish it could go on a little longer, but this is okay. This was the very first animated comic I'd ever seen, so thank you for the wonderful introduction ^^ Hope your future ventures are just as creative and successful, if not more so ^^
Thank you so much for your great work and dedication. It was a lot of fun reading Buying Time!
Good luck in all your future endeavors, Notos!
I can't wait to see what you do next!
I just came back to see if it was still here - nice to see all those commenters below, who discovered it late and are presumably just a sample of the total.
Depends on the page, this one in particular took about 3 weeks, though..I was also riding a bit of a buffer during that time so I took it slower than usual.
Someone i follow on furaffinity (don't know who) promoted you. And i'm not sure, but i think it was from the first or second page or something.
So i have been reading since the start basically.
I loved the story, it was amazing. And i can't wait for the new project.
And speaking of that. Where can i find it when it comes out? The only thing i follow on a daily basis is facebook and furaffinity.
All that other stuff like twitter and snapchat, i never liked those.
Thanks Toxy glad you found us and enjoyed the story!
I'll be posting and pertinent updates on future projects here (above in the Author Comment section) on my Twitter (button to follow is also above) and likely on FA as well.
Hi Casey – I found “Buying Time” because I’m following @beatonna on Twitter and @brumagemm tweeted Kate about it on 2/13, and I went here immediately and burned through your whole comic in an evening! This story has really stuck in my mind, and the reason why is going to sound banal, but: You've heard stories about how Pixar films can help autistic children approach and reconcile their emotional selves? Well, I’m a cynic, and your comic has slightly melted this titanium exterior and let me peek into a world where people are actually NICE TO EACH OTHER. It’s a handy reminder that such people as Vinnie and Galvin, who aren’t constantly taking an offensive/defensive stance, could maybe, possibly, PERHAPS really exist. Makes me want to get out there and find a really sweet guy. It’s a nice thought. Anyway, thanks!
Hey Taylor, thanks for your comment, glad you've found BT and enjoyed reading it! I'm happy to hear the story of Vinnie and Galvin's little journey has touched you, that is definitely one of the best things I can hear about my work. Thanks for reading!
I'm a little late to the party but thank you for everything. THis was a beautiful story and seeing the production art was amazing. I can't wait for your next project.
Thanks Chantal, glad you enjoyed it!
For future updates you can follow me on Twitter (link above), or check back here, I'll post any pertinent updates in the author comments above. It will likely be during the summertime before I start serious production on my next project.
What wonderful characters and story set in a vibrant and interesting world. I loved the blend of social commentary on the main characters' lives and their relationship to each other and to society, and the awesome cyberpunk tech set in a stunning futuristic city, all beautifully drawn with incredible animation. Finally the characters are so cute and lovable, and yet interesting and real. Buying Time is no doubt my favorite web comic I've ever read, and I shed a tear at its beautiful conclusion. I truly hope we get some more chapters in the future! I feel like there's so much more to learn about the world and characters. Cheers Casey, you did a fantastic job!
Forgot to say, thinking back through all 8 chapters, one of my favorite things about the comic is that never is it mentioned that the main characters are gay and they are never labeled as such, nor is it ever even thought of as odd that they were together. While I do hope I never have to manage a Daily Leisure Credit Account, I hope some day our world resembles Hyperion in at least how much the people there are so accepting and welcoming of each other despite their differences. :)
Thanks so much RR, glad you enjoyed it so much! I've mentioned this previously regarding how I rarely if ever focus explicitly on the characters being 'gay', outside of not wanting to pander that angle; I foresee such social stigmas dissolving eventually, but being replaced with another "class system", one likely involving technology, communication, advertising (it all comes back to money)
...basically for better or for worse I foresee current world issues just transitioning into a new set of issues as technology progresses. I tried to demonstrate that in this story.
Am I the only one who comes back every Sunday, hoping that there's a new comic? ;-;
You have such an awesome comic, and I miss it a ton. I can't wait for your next project.
I do want to say, thank you for this wonderful experience you led me through with this comic. It was a complete joy.
Thanks David really glad you enjoyed the story so much, and yeah it certainly feels weird for me too, not having to work on it anymore after it was basically a second full-time-job for 3 years!
I've been reading (sometimes expecting, waiting, falling asleep for a new release) you work during two and a half years. I'm a bit sad that it's the end (mainly because I didn't see it coming). But in the other hand, I'm very very glad you started this project. And I can't wait for the next to come.
Thanks Schufi, certainly does feel weird that it is the end (especially for me, such a big project!) Hope you enjoy what I create next, whenever it comes along!
Thanks so much Zach glad you enjoyed it! I will indeed continue doing comics, working out details for the next one now, hoping to start development in the summer, fingers crossed.
I was with this comic for at least a year, I just wish that I hadn't missed the posting of the end at the start of the year.
At least you did it after my birthday. For some reason I think that's something good.
It was a great story and ride. I'm sure everyone has said that. I'm a bit surprised an a bit pleased that it worked out for them.
I was all ready for them to ditch the city and head out there to find his parents and get to see what most of out there looked liked.
But you did something almost a bit braver by having them stay and work through it all and getting to a good place. Not beating the system and not ditching it, but getting along with it.
Great job and I hope we get to see something else from you in the future. :)
I feel like I only just started reading this comic. Amazing that three years have passed. I can't believe it's come to an end, but I'm super glad to have been able to be part of the journey.
It's hard to believe it's over. I stumbled on this my freshman year here at uni and now I'm finishing my junior year and it's over and I can't help but feel like something will be missing. But I look forward to everything that comes after this :)
This comic has struck very personal chords for me as it accompanied the steps of my relationship with my boyfriend. It's helped me figure parts of it out, and since I could often only see him on Sundays it was great coming home to see what "my" boys had been up to in the meantime.
I'd hate to lose touch with you and your next project, whatever it will be. What's the best way not to miss it?
I cab't believe it's over. I feel Vinnie and Galvin have grown but there's so much for them to see and experience after this. Still, this comic has me tearing up and it hit very close to home. I really love your style and Vinnie's design is very sexy too. Hopefully we'll get to see what happens with the awesome couple. Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks a lot Taiyokid, the ending certainly left open the potential to expand on the story, I may choose to after my next project, we'll see! Thanks for reading!
Thank you so much for a beautiful story. You left me in tears. I wanted to see Vinnie and Galvin more but that's just me being greedy. I hate that the story's over but here's a big thank you for all the wonderful feels you've given me, my friends, and everyone here :)
Thanks a lot for sharing this adventure online. It feels like a great long lasting present. Been given by a stranger makes it all the more special. Please keep doing this kind of stuff. You rock!
Thanks AJ! I certainly will keep doing this stuff! Currently really busy with lead design on a cartoon but am hoping to start production on the next comic this summer.
Thanks a lot T_H! I will see more from me, I'm hoping to start some serious work on the next project this summer, after my current day job has gotten less crazy.
Thanks, hoping to start working on the next project over summer, studio work is pretty intense lately. I've been working out script drafts but keep rolling different ideas around in my head so its going slowly. I'll be back for more, sometime.
Damn, just kinda stumbled on this today, great read! Honestly, Vinnie and Galvin's relationship is pretty much my ideal relationship and seeing it in print kinda puts getting a good boyfriend on higher priority now, kinda life changing almost in that way. If romances were all written like this I'd totally read romance more.
Hey there glad you found us and enjoyed it! I agree with you about reading more romance, I guess that's why I wrote this, I wanted to sort of 'fill the gap' with the kind of romance story I personal find appealing.
This really is one of the most amazing things I've read. It's beautiful in every sense, the art, the story, the characters, everything... AMAZING!
Thank you for doing this project and for sharing it with us, it was an awesome ride and I really hope to read/hear more from you. You've got crazy talent and great things will come your way.
It's been my pleasure, very glad you enjoyed it so much! I'll certainly be doing more in the future after some downtime/current studio gig's ease up. Stay tuned, thanks for reading!
This is very obviously a labour of love. The animation itself is fresh, and doesn't rely too much on trope. The scenery is stimulating, and the poses and content aren't recycled or ignored. I love the composition of all of the pages. Not a single one hasn't left me intrigued, studying it. When I read comics I read the text, and then re-read for the artwork. But this format is so exciting- I look at everything, and don't want to miss a bit of it.
What I especially appreciated was the balance of nudity. Buying Time isn't prudish, but it isn't pornography. It feels personal and just on the edge of cheeky. It's so exhilarating to read.
It's such a bittersweet feeling, because I want more but this story has wrapped up so well. I feel so close I could reach out and touch you, because you only finished this in January. It's so fresh and you obviously need time to recharge, but I'm excited for whatever you're doing next.
>_<, little tired out cause i read the whole comic in one go (took like 3 days...kept me up till 4 am!)
How wonderful it was though! The originality of the animated drawings! the extreme quality of the work! The casual nakedness (never crass or vulgar)! I, like many other absolutely THANK YOU for the amount of work you have put into this!
Hope you're able to find love and happiness through your endeaveours
Just found this and went through it all. Everything was great. Absolutely professional work all around. I really cared for the characters. Thanks for making this comic! Incredibly inspiring!
This is my first gay romance comic, and I'm glad it was! The character development in Vin was great, I can relate to him in a lot of ways. Thank you for the awesome comic! I only wish I could have discovered this sooner...
Like so many others here, I recently found this comic and ended up binge reading it. This is easily one of THE BEST webcomics I have ever seen. The storytelling and characters touched my heart in a way I haven't experienced in a long time. The world you created has almost endless potential for a continuation of the story. Truth be told, I am heartbroken that the story has ended. But, I hope that you find the energy to start it back up, because this is special.
I can't believe I have only just found this webcomic and I spent 2 hours binge reading it only to find out it's ended. It was heart warming, funny and a great bunch of characters. Within the last 2 hours of reading it, it has become one of my favorite webcomics. I loved every minute of it
I just wanted to say thank you for this very wonderful web comic. I found this randomly after searching for cool web comics with LGBT characters. THey're usually a hit or miss for me. But this one really hit the spot for me. I can relate to Vinnie so well with the poverty and weight problem, I couldn't help tearing up all the time. I love that you have created this wonderful universe and great characters I've become emotionally invested in. I do hope you continue the story for the foreseeable future. It would break my heart not to see any more of these two.
Really, thank you for doing such a wonderful comic and sharing it with us. I had been introduced to Buying Time years back, like when you just started out. But I got a bit busy with other stuff and had comouter problems that I didn't get to follow on updates. You did such a great work on this project and I hope to see more lovely works from you! Keep up the good work and stay healthy.
I started reading this comic on Friday, and finished it today. It was amazing, you got my kudos for making this story and sharing it. The format was unusual, but it really helped making it interesting. I love the character designs and their personalities. On the whole I love this comic, and I wish you well in your future endeavors. Though I wouldn't like to live in that world, too much Big Brother for me, and I dislike DLC quite a lot, unless they're VERY good. Anyways, I wish you the best.
Obrigado pela Comic incrível, sua criatividade me impressionou muito. Espero que um dia volte com a história de Vinnie, ou pelo menos, nesse mesmo universo. Parabéns pelo ótimo trabalho!
find your comic website a few days ago and I take like 3 days to finish it, I really fall in love with the story and I hope that in some future you will continue with the life of them or create a new comic
What a wonderful story! I started reading when it was about half way done, and now Ive come back to finish it. Im so happy with that lovely ending, it felt very realistic but was still satisfying :)
This comic is one of the rare gem combining the sequential art with animation using flash. I am so thrilled to see such ideas made like this. I feel we really need more motion comics from you in the near future if it's not the continuation of Buying Time series. You have such an amazing vision and I can not wait to see more from you in the future, however it may be.
I just finished it, and I found it lovely. It's a very good project from a technical standpoint, and I think you've handled this 'mixed language' between comics and animation well. What really brings value to it though is the originality of the story and your skills as a storyteller. I loved the themes you explored and the way you brought them to live through your characters. It takes a sensitive narrator to do that. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing this publicly.
Hello friends! I used to read this comic and came back to read through it again but for some reason am unable to see it. I've tried Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and Internet Explorer and made sure my Java is all updated. Any help or thoughts? Thanks!
This was an unique comic read. I have never seen a comic done in this style, and I loved it. The art and colors were beautiful, the characters had life, it was all so good. Thank you so much for giving this to us all, this was an experience I wont soon forget
I totally binged this today! Love the colors, the pacing, the concept! I found myself having anxiety for a moment when I emerged from my room and talked to a friend, thinking I was spending $$$ for DLC hahaha!
I came back to read your comic and it says Adobe Flashplayer is no longer supported! I know adobe was discontinuing but I didn't think about how it could affect sites. Is there any way to republish without adobe?
This comic series was so impactful on me, that I even found the two (commissioned?) music tracks on YouTube and downloaded them and listened to them over 300 times each!
However, since 2021, "Adobe strongly recommends all users immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems."
Chrome has already removed flash support… would you consider making this web-comic series HTML5 compliant, or archivable/viewable in some way other than Flash?
Whew. I read Buying Time years ago as a teen, probably up to its 4th chapter, and then somehow lost track of it. Just managed to relocate it, because my sieve memory lost the title...
It's been great reading the whole story, it's as good as I remember -read the whole thing in two days. Super fun to look back both on webcomics as they used to be, and on the way my younger self interpreted things differently.
As for Flash Player related inconveniences, there are flash emulator plug-ins available. They won't always display everything correctly (mine has issues with transparent layers, and I think I'm missing almost all transition animations), but you'll be able to read the story just fine.
You can use the browser Waterfox classic and install the plugin. Use at your own risk though. Make sure to only use it with a separate email and access and not to use it for other stuff like banking.
I remember reading this story when it was still being updated and wondered how it was going.
Seeing it got finished but i can't view it anymore because Adobe flash player is no longer supported.
Is there somewhere else where i can read your lovely comic?
Saddened that it's over, but it's as they say with 'all good things...'
I sure hope you do more things of this type in the future! It really has been great. Thank you!
And thanks for the wonderful read!
WHAT
WHY???
TIME TO GO INTO ETERNAL SLEEP NOW
It had been a ride, but it was a great one!
Peace.
Thank you SO MUCH for entertaining us every sunday for years :) It has been so much fun and I wish you all the best in life!^^
Kind regards
ChristinaSJ
I look forward to whatever projects you do in the future! :)
I look forward what you do next, I'll be there :)
I can't even begin to imagine how many hours you spent working on this over the past three years. But I, and so many other readers here, truly appreciate what you've given us.
Now, for your own sanity, TAKE A LONG BREAK before even considering to tackle your next project.
Thanks for the ride! *hugs*
I'm sad it ends but it has been a wonderful trip.
Looking forward to reading your next project.
this was a great ride
i look forward to your next web•comics series; shall you be using this same web-address?
have you gone through the trouble of buying other pages?
I likely wont be using the same address, I might still use comicfury if I decide to go with some kind of flash format, we'll see. Regardless I'll let readers know what happens.
Looking forward to more of your work and some new stories, meanwhile, wish you all the best! ^^
Maybe one off art of the characters, animated, sexy of course. x3
Thank you.
VERY WELL DONE! This is a very well written and portrayed multi-model piece! I really hope you revisit this world in the future there's a ton of potential in this source material and I'll definitely be looking out for your future projects!
This is so bittersweet. It saddens me to see the end, but you prepared us for it though. The characters are in a good place, and I'm happy about that. I hope your creative light continues to burn brightly. Buena suerte, Notos, mis mejores deseos!
Thanks for the wonderful comic.
We'll see what happens.
Love, Sponi
p.s. put your twitter in the description so we can know when updates come!
Sincerly,
SL
Thanks for such a wonderful story! ;u;
I'm sorry it has ended but thank you so much for seeing it through to the end. I'm really grateful that no matter what else you had on you kept going - it's very refreshing.
Look forward to your next project!
Rarely do folks go for the bittersweet and realistic kinda thing.
Loved the whole ride - wish you the best of luck for whatever you're up to now/next :)
Thank you a lot for this story (story that I'm not going to get over with so easily! I'll miss all of them...) and I'll hope to see more of your future projects!
And again: THANK YOU!!
Plus it's an amazing setting!
Really sad to know it's finished. Will be looking forward to whatever you decide to work on next (though I imagine you are going to have some well deserved rest!)
I've been listening to Gravity non-stop since I finished :)
Again, thank you for this comic!
For life in a freaky cyberpunk future, you managed to tell a damn adorable down-to-earth romance and I LOVE IT.
Will we be seeing any more projects from you? I'd hate this to be the last.
I tried to hit a nice 'neutral' spot for the ending, not too mushy and happy, not too dark.
I will certainly be working on another comic project in the future, hoping to get some stuff going around summertime, but we'll see, never know how long pre-production takes. Cheers.
Best of luck to you, my friend. I look forward to whatever else you put your mind to. :)
nooooooo
It was an amazing read, thanks so much!
iwwish this story continues....
Excited to see what you do next! Also, have you considered Patreon for your next long term project? It's been a great way for me to set up monthly donations to other webcomics I follow...
(Hopefully after you take some quality personal time!)
it came to its end and now we are looking for the next story
i really liked to read it page after page , week after week
I just can't believe I won't see another post. I'm way too sad :c
But is my obligation to congratulate you for this awesome piece of art. You are awesome.
This was an incredible journey and I'm really glad I've been part of it, in the shadows xd.
You are an amazing artist, and please keep doing these kind of projects. You are really good at it.
Greets from Chile!
Good luck in all your future endeavors, Notos!
I can't wait to see what you do next!
'Bye !
I'll be posting and pertinent updates on future projects here (above in the Author Comment section) on my Twitter (button to follow is also above) and likely on FA as well.
For future updates you can follow me on Twitter (link above), or check back here, I'll post any pertinent updates in the author comments above. It will likely be during the summertime before I start serious production on my next project.
...basically for better or for worse I foresee current world issues just transitioning into a new set of issues as technology progresses. I tried to demonstrate that in this story.
You have such an awesome comic, and I miss it a ton. I can't wait for your next project.
I do want to say, thank you for this wonderful experience you led me through with this comic. It was a complete joy.
At least you did it after my birthday. For some reason I think that's something good.

I'd hate to lose touch with you and your next project, whatever it will be. What's the best way not to miss it?
I'll post any pertinent updates regarding my next project on my Twitter, and in the Author Comment section up above.
Damn autocorrection. :)
Love from Norway
Love from Canada
Thank you for doing this project and for sharing it with us, it was an awesome ride and I really hope to read/hear more from you. You've got crazy talent and great things will come your way.
Thanks again, amazing!
I took a bit of a hiatus cause Vinnie and Galvin reminded myself of me and a failed attempt at a relationship...
But I'm back and I loved this ending and I can't wait to see your future projects
Also, it may be a good idea to add a "Welcome" page, so as to not spoil new readers on the ending?
